What Is PALS?

PALS is the acronym for Parents Assist Learning and Schooling, a training program designed to encourage parents to play active roles in their children’s education. The PALS Facilitator’s Manuals and their companion Participant’s Manuals present information and exercises that help parents and guardians understand:

  • Why it is important for them to be involved in their children’s education;
  • What they can do to be involved in their children’s education;
  • How they can create a positive family attitude toward education, school and learning in general.

Literacy Project:

  • The Literacy Exchange Project is a network of youth-oriented community groups and individuals who. with leadership from the local Home and School or Parent- Teacher Associaiton, join together to review the literacy needs of young poeople and families in a world of rapid scientific and technological change.

    The Literacy Resourcebook describes how to form a community Literacy Exchange to look at literacy and learning in the local environment and suggests where to look for support and expertise. It includes a set of project descriptions and activities which families and communities have undertaken to promote the value, skills, and awareness which they feel are conducive to learning.
